6 Tips in Choosing the Best Wedding Party Playlist by Stephen Sluyter

It is every person's dream to have the perfect wedding, but all of that would only be possible through months of planning for it. You need to carefully select every element that goes into it to achieve that "wow" factor and make it memorable. The bottomline is, for all the work that goes into planning your wedding, you can’t afford to commit any mistake. Not even with the wrong music.

DJ Steven Sluyter is here to help out and gives a few important things to consider in selecting the perfect wedding party playlist. He is a musician, MC, and DJ from Austin, Texas where he has hosted countless wedding parties. The task of choosing the best wedding playlist can be challenging especially for someone who rarely attends such events.

Stephen Sluyter gives tips in choosing your wedding playlist

1.Play Different Genres

Wedding receptions are most likely to be filled with different types of people that usually differ in the taste of music as well. the wisest thing to do is by creating a playlist with different genres such as pop, hip hop, r&b, etc. You should also play retro music so even the older adults would not feel left out.

2.Kickstart with the retro
The party usually starts after the appetizer course. Play old genres such as 60s Rock, Motown, or Disco. During that time, some people may not be interested to dance yet so slowly start with the hits from the past so you can gradually make your way to the latest ones. By doing so, your older guests will go with the flow for the modern music played in the later part of the party.

3. Play non-danceable music for cocktail or dinner hour

During cocktail or dinner time, the guests are still adjusting and getting comfortable with everyone else. A selection of indie rock would be wiser since it has just the right pace and volume. This would effectively serve as the background while other guests are still talking with each other.

4. For opening, gravitate towards the mainstream music

Not too long after dinner, the DJ needs to quickly get into action and start filling the dance floor. The best choice for this is by playing songs that are easily recognized by the guests. Remember, modern music is different from mainstream music. In order for the adults to quickly engage is by playing music usually played on the radio. Start with Pitbull, Rihanna, or LMFAO. These types of music could amp up the party because of their fast pace and dynamic beat. DJ Steven Sluyter of Full Scope Entertainment uses the same technique whenever his clients requests for it. Although he has his own style of DJing, by using this technique one can easily capture the crowd.

5. Consider using line dances to stop the party from ending

Line dancing saves any party from ending and it has been witnessed by DJs as well. The usual go to for these types of dances are hit by Electric Slide and Cupid Shuffle. A great line dance is usually started by the married couple themselves, and if it goes well before you know it the line packed with guests of all ages. Once that is done, you can now request the DJ to play the music you want to hear.

6. Mix in some ballads.

Wedding parties should be the celebration of the groom and bride for finally tying the knot. With that said, it is only reasonable to let the newlyweds enjoy some romantic and slow dancing. Although this may also be a practical idea for other guests since it lets them take some time to rest after some period of upbeat dancing. Ballad songs would not only tone down the party but keep it romantic and fun at the same time.

The couple must never fail to have a thorough and agreeable discussion with the wedding DJ first. Although DJs such as DJ Steven Sluyter have their own style in doing their job, he would also like to remind his clients how personalizing the wedding playlist would make your wedding party more memorable. It’s also helpful to show your DJ the demographics of the guests so he can prepare suitable music ahead of time. For personal touches, you may also request some of your favorite songs.
